Pete chats about Tommy at University Club of Chicago

Pete Townshend appeared at the University Club of Chicago’s Cathedral Hall last week (August 7), for a conversation with Chicago Tribune’s Chris Jones.

Pete discussed the newly reimagined musicial production of The Who’s Tommy, which had it’s final show at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago the night before. It was a lively chat on a range of topics, and Pete told a few hilarious stories.

The event also featured conversations with the show’s director Des McAnuff, and Tommy cast members Adam Jacobs (Captain Walker) and Alison Luff (Mrs. Walker), and a video from the musical.

Pete was in high spirits and had a lot to be proud about. The new production of The Who’s Tommy was a smash hit, breaking box office records for the Goodman Theatre. It is reported to be the highest grossing production in the theatre’s 98 year history, selling out 36 performances over it’s summer run, which was extended twice due to large ticket demand.

No official word yet if the show will go to Broadway or other cities, but considering the huge success it had in Chicago, it seems likely to happen.

Many thanks to Amy Carr from the University Club of Chicago for providing the photos and videos from this event!
