The Who’s Tommy is returning to Broadway this month!

Pete Townshend and director Des McAnuff are bringing a flashy new revival of their Tony award-winning 1993 Broadway musical to the Nederlander Theatre on West 41st Street in New York City. Previews begin on March 8, with opening night set for March 28, 2024.

This modern day rendition of Tommy brings back the creative team and wonderful cast who worked on the successful run of sold out shows at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre last year, which broke records as the highest grossing production in the theater's history and received nine Joseph Jefferson Awards.

The cast is led by Ali Louis Bourzgui, who was fantastic in the lead role of Tommy Walker in the Chicago production. Also reprising their roles are Alison Luff as Mrs. Walker, Adam Jacobs as Captain Walker, John Ambrosino as Uncle Ernie, Bobby Conte as Cousin Kevin, and Christina Sajous as the Acid Queen.

The creative team includes Lorin Latarro (choreographer), Ron Melrose (music supervision and additional arrangements), David Korins (set), Rick Fox (musical direction and additional orchestrations), Peter Nigrini (projections), Sarafina Bush (costumes), Amanda Zieve (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound), and Steve Margoshes (orchestrations).

The rest of the cast include ensemble members Haley Gustafson, Jeremiah Alsop, Ronnie S. Bowman Jr., Mike Cannon, Tyler James Eisenreich, Sheldon Henry, Afra Hines, Aliah James, David Paul Kidder, Tassy Kirbas, Lily Kren, Quinten Kusheba, Reese Levine, Brett Michael Lockley, Nathan Lucrezio, Alexandra Matteo, Mark Mitrano, Reagan Pender, Cecilia Ann Popp, Daniel Quadrino, Olive Ross-Kline, Jenna Nicole Shoen, Dee Tomasetta, and Andrew Tufano.

To help promote the musical, Pete Townshend joined the cast of Tommy and performed acoustic guitar on Pinball Wizard at the Broadway Across America conference in Miami on February 7. The closed-to-press event highlighted shows that are coming to Broadway to a crowd of 250 attendees that included investors, producers and booking agents.

The original production of The Who’s Tommy was first staged by Des McAnuff at the La Jolla Playhouse in 1992, before moving to Broadway where it opened at the Saint James Theatre in April 1993 and closed in June 1995. The musical debuted in London’s West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre in March 1996, where Tommy won multiple Lawrence Olivier awards. Michael Cerveris played the lead of Tommy Walker in the original productions.
