Pete will appear at Tommy benefit show in La Jolla

Pete Townshend will make a special guest appearance at a fundraising performance of The Who’s Tommy at the Mandell Weiss Theatre in La Jolla on Monday, October 14 at 7:30pm. The event will benefit the La Jolla Playhouse, the theatre where the Tony Award winning Broadway stage production of Tommy was originally launched in 1992. Also appearing will be the director Des McAnuff, and members of the original Broadway cast.

Tickets are available now from lajollaplayhouse.org.

Here is the official announcement from the La Jolla Playhouse:

Playhouse Artistic Director Emeritus and Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff brings The Who’s TOMMY home to the Playhouse as the world celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of The Who’s iconic album. Don’t miss your once-in-a-lifetime chance to join Pete Townshend, co-founder of The Who, Des McAnuff and many of the original Broadway cast members in an intimate, one-night-only staged concert performance of the award-winning musical in the Weiss Theatre!

All proceeds from this exclusive event support La Jolla Playhouse’s Artistic, Education and Outreach programs, including those benefiting San Diego military families.

Des McAnuff told Broadway World: "It is thrilling to be working once again at La Jolla Playhouse on Pete Townshend's extraordinary music and lyrics for the quintessential rock opera Tommy. I am greatly looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the historic album with members of the original Broadway cast, San Diego's beloved Red Dirt Band, my friends and colleagues of the Playhouse and with the San Diego audiences where it all began. It promises to be a magnificent evening and an important signpost in the history of this monumental work."
